We have playlists

I began running when I quit swimming competitively my freshman year in college, oh, about 16 years ago. I got "serious" about running and starting training for 10ks in graduate school. I started running half marathons in my late 20s. Three days before I found out that I was pregnant with Jack, I was supposed to run my first marathon after spending over 5 months in training. I didn't run the marathon and I've been itching to get back into training for a couple of months now (not to mention lose the last of my "baby" weight).

All this being said, I never used to run and listen to music. It bothered me that I couldn't hear my breathing, for one, and let's face it - swimming is the most solitary, monotonous sport around and I had been doing that since the tender age of 7. But somethings changed during the this current, post-baby phase of my running. I have to have the music. I look forward to my newest playlist and how much it's going to give me a boost on a hill or motivate me for the last mile. So, I thought I'd post what I'm listening to now.

JaxMom's Running Playlist

I have a hilly 5 mile route that I run about three days a week after work (I also try and run once or twice on the weekend, but that's much flatter and Jack is often with me, so no playlist for that route yet.) The hills start with Tears for Fears and ends with LL Cool J.

1. Rose Rouge | St. Germain
2. Crazy | Gnarls Barkley
3. September | Earth, Wind & Fire
4. Break It Down Again | Tears for Fears
5. Shut Your Eyes | Snow Patrol
6. Seven Nation Army | White Stripes
7. Elevation | U2
8. Bleed It Out | Linkin Park
9. Mama Said Knock You Out | LL Cool J
10. Love Stoned | Justin Timberlake
11. 1234 | Feist
12. Babylon | David Gray

And for good measure, the little guy's current playlist:

Jax Car-riding Playlist

1. Life Is a Highway | Rascal Flatts
2. Hot Potato | The Wiggles
3. Upside Down | Jack Johnson
4. Fruit Salad | The Wiggles
5. The 3 R's | Jack Johnson
6. Get Up (I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine) | James Brown (AKA Grandad's Song)
7. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover | Paul Simon
8. God Only Knows | The Beach Boys
9. Jungle Gym | Jack Johnson

Note: I've opened comments to mine for suggestions for either of our playlists. Lay them on me!

  • You go girl! In my opinion, you can't really beat Hey Ya! for a good running song, plus most of ABBA Gold, and anything by the new pornographers and/or the Coup.
