Jack Attack

Ahem . . . anyone out there?

Clearly, we've been neglect with the blog. And when I say "we" I mean me - JaxMom. Taking full responsibility on this one. However, I've had some help in my neglect.

Item #1 - I have a new job that starts Friday!!!! I cannot tell you how much time and effort I've put into the Job Hunt and, people, it has paid off. So, you are down a few blog updates, but I'm doing something better for me and my family. Tough noogies for you.

Item #2 - JaxDad is crazy-busy with his job, leaving me a single mom a lot. I'm not bitter - just busy after hours.

Item #3 - Jack went and had himself checked into the ER last week. Ah, the ER on Friday night - really, you should try it sometime. Makes you seriously doubt the human race. I digress...

On Wednesday, Jack started vomiting violently. This lasted about 26 hours. Naturally, we thought it was the flu. He recovered Thursday afternoon, into Friday, when, out of nowhere, the vomiting started up again. (By the way, if anyone knows of a good price on a new couch - let me know.) Unlike his previous vomiting episode, this time he kept complaining that his stomach hurt. This turns out to be a huge benefit - I kid that can tell you what hurts! I took him seriously, called the pedi, wasted two hours at urgent care, then ended up at the ER on a Friday night. Did I tell you how wonderful this experience is? Really, you should try it.

We (me, Jack, JaxDad, and G'Mom) were at the ER from about 6:00 pm to 3:00 am. It turns out Jack probably had something called intussusception. It's when your intestine telescopes in on itself an causes sever abdominal pain and, if untreated, eventual death.

So, yeah.

The ER gave him a barium enema while looking at him under x-ray. The procedure is the cure in this case. Needless to say, lots and lots and lots of dirty diapers involved, but we have a healthy kid. The next time he vomits - off the ER we go. No more taking chances with this guy because if I've learned anything about parenting Jack - nothing is normal. The odds? We don't play them in this family.

This is a picture of my "baby" two years ago this week "eating" his first cereal.
